"A step on the journey"

A coronary heart disease makes Roberto particularly at risk during this epidemic, which is raging in Spain. In such rigid isolation, how can one live the sense of belonging that the text of School of Community speaks about?

These days of isolation confirm, ever more, that the circumstances which God makes us experience constitute an essential factor of our vocation, of the mission to which He calls us. These words of Fr. Giussani that have been with me for the last eight years, and are becoming increasingly relevant during my days of "isolation" at home. In the last seven years, I have undergone two heart operations to replace my aortic valve. Since then, the Lord has allowed me to live my illness as a call to become more His, as the form in which He invests my life and accompanies me.

The work of the last Schools of Community has proved very timely in these days of pain and suffering because of the pandemic. Working on the point of belonging, Fr. Giussani emphasizes that it translates the encounter with Jesus into concrete experience. Reading this made me understand that a journey is needed for peace and certainty to blossom in critical moments like these. This is what happened during both operations and is happening during this period of isolation, as has happened throughout my life. Only a journey has allowed me to be grateful in the midst of such tribulations, certain that life is made to be given, sharing the experiences that I live.
