Fr. Quique on the day of his profession of faith

"Embraced by the mercy of another"

Davide Prosperi's message to Fr. Sergio Massalongo and the Cascinazza monastic community on the death of Fr. Enrique Bicand (Quique).

Dearest Father Sergio, dear friends of the Cascinazza monastery,

Together with the entire movement of Communion and Liberation, I am deeply moved by your deep sorrow at the sudden loss of our friend, Fr. Quique.
His total yes to Jesus Christ in the vocation of monastic life has been for many of us, over these years, a unique testimony of a lively and tender faith, capable of vigorously embracing the weaknesses and greatness of each person's heart, in his tension towards rediscovering the living encounter with the meaning of life.
His birth to Heaven in such a mysterious way rekindles the thirst for the One who was the affection of his whole life in all of us. He witnessed this to us in allowing himself to be conquered more and more by His love that preceded him, calling us back to a true religiosity. As Fr. Quique himself wrote: "Without a clear awareness of your nothingness (of your powerlessness) and without the gratitude of knowing that you are loved, you no longer understand anything at all! The two go together, that is, you experience a pain within you like never before, yet it is a pain that laughs (L. Giussani), because it is embraced by the mercy of Another."

In prayer, I entrust the family, companions and all friends of Fr. Quique to Our Lady, who now enjoys the Father's embrace.
