It was Thursday, October 22 and it was about 3pm. As part of the AME program, our Torrance Janitorial crew was invited to "Introduction to Beauty." What could be more naturally beautiful than the South Beach Ocean? We often think about it but many times we do not have the possibility to see it and even when we see it we do not look at it, we take it for granted. Not this time. A simple proposal. "Let' s look at the ocean and remain in silence for 2 minutes, what do you see happening with in yourself?" Fr. Jose' Medina, the friend who flew in from Washington to help us to see what often we do not see, told us. Two minutes of silence and then it was asked "what happened inside you?" The recognition of the beauty in front of us made us discover the truth of who we are. Before the immensity of this Beauty some said "I feel myself, I find peace in me, I breath" someone else "I feel the nostalgia for the people I lost", "I feel one with this beauty." We have seen and touched with our hands that our dignity is the relationship with this Mysterious beauty which attracts all ourselves and open our heart to desire to be continually in this relationship. A true thank you to: The AME Program, "Introduction to Beauty: Made for Beauty!"; to the cleaning workers: first class citizens made for Beauty; to the Foundations who have supported this program; to Nancy for having proposed this special moment; and to Fr. Jose' for having introduced us to beauty and the truth of who we are.
