For Freedom in Education
Communion and Liberation supports the demonstration planned for November 12th.
The 1978 Constitution acknowledges and defends the right of parents to choose a kind of education that agrees with their convictions. The education reform presently under discussion in the Congress of Deputies gravely limits the freedom of parents and substitutes the primacy of social initiative with a harmful statalism.
At the dawn of the 21st century, there are many in Spain who have lost the most elementary taste for life and have entrusted their desire for happiness to the hands of those who dictate fashions. Now more than ever there is a need for educative experiences that do not limit themselves to instruction, and that are able to stimulate and accompany the freedom of the youth so that they recuperate the rational exercise of criticism before the tradition they have received, and learn in this way to question themselves with a positive attitude on the meaning of existence, and to love themselves and all those around them. These educative experiences cannot happen without freedom.
Monsignor Luigi Giussani, founder of Communion and Liberation, always affirmed that he preferred a political power that would make him go about naked to a political power that would limit the freedom of education. We will take part on the demonstration on November 12th next.
