Dicastery for the Laity. Fr. Carrón's letter to the Fraternity

The president of CL updates members and friends of the movement on the steps taken, and those that will follow, to respond to the Decree addressed to the associations and movements of the faithful.

Dear friends,

As you know, following the publication of the General Decree issued by the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life regarding the exercise of government in international associations of the faithful, I immediately communicated to the Prefect of the Dicastery, Cardinal Farrell, our full willingness to fulfill all that was requested. I would therefore like to inform you of the steps we have taken so far and of those we intend to take in this direction.

In the weeks since then, the Executive Committee of the Fraternity, together with several expert jurists, began an intense reflection on the regulatory requirements needed to stipulate the duration of mandates for positions on the central governing body of the Fraternity, and methods of participation in the appointment of members of the Central Diaconia and of the President.

We wanted to share the steps in our work with the Dicastery from the beginning, and consequently, Roberto Fontolan, director of the CL International Center and also a member of the Dicastery, recently met with Cardinal Farrell.

In the course of the conversation, which was very cordial, some aspects of the new rules were better explained, the timeline for the process that applies to all lay association was clarified and the great importance of the Assembly being convened by the Dicastery on September 16, inviting representatives from all the movements, associations and new communities [...]
